For many Scouts, the path to earning Scouting’s highest rank - Eagle Scout - includes pursing a project that serves and strengthens the community. For Life Scout Adithya Rajasekhar of Troop 727, that vision came to fruition through his love for chess, learning, and friendly competition.
Adithya set out to create a unique community amenity that residents and visitors of all ages could enjoy. What began as a personal interest soon grew into a large-scale service project requiring extensive planning, fundraising, coordination, and teamwork.
Over the course of the project, Adithya dedicated over 102 hours of work while leading more than a dozen volunteers and supporters. He spent two months fundraising, meeting with community members, and selling See’s Candies to raise the funds needed to bring the project to life. The finished project represented an investment of more than $1,700 in materials and supplies. The project involved constructing and assembling oversized chess pieces, handcrafting and painting checkers pieces, and preparing the game sets for long-term community use. Along the way, Adithya overcame challenges that included fundraising, painting and finishing the pieces, and coordinating volunteers and schedules.
Adithya has created a lasting community amenity that encourages neighbors to gather, connect, and enjoy time together. His Eagle Scout service project reflects the spirit of Scouting: using individual talents and initiative to make a meaningful difference in the community. Adithya was commended at the October 27, 2026, Board of Directors Meeting, where the Board congratulated him on the success of his project and his dedication as a Scout. The chess/checkers set will call the Beach Club its primary home, but keep an eye out throughout SAMLARC's parks, trails, and events - you may see the board and pieces set up and ready for willing players!
