This summer brought hundreds of visitors to the Lago Santa Margarita for great picnics, fishing, and promenades around one of South Orange County’s only fully-walkable lakes. While the Lake was designed to be a gathering space for precisely those activities, the historic number of visitors this year also impacted the Lakeshore’s wildlife, fishing quality, and appearance. SAMLARC is reviewing its maintenance protocols to protect the ecosystem - and we’re making changes, one line at a time!
We invite you to join us in our efforts to keep the Lake safe and beautiful. This fall, SAMLARC is partnering with Canyon Wildlife Initiative for a fun and helpful Lakeshore cleanup day! By reducing the amount of litter at the Lake, we can help protect wildlife and keep the Lakeshore beautiful. Families, community members, and students are welcome to participate. Gloves, bags, instructions, and donuts will be provided for registered participants - and high school students are welcome to use this opportunity for service hours! This Lakeshore Cleanup Day is just one way that SAMLARC is adjusting its year-round operations at the Lake. We invite you to stay up-to-date on other operational changes over the next few months, and appreciate your patience as we educate the community on best fishing practices, wildlife interaction, and more. Many thanks to Canyon Wildlife Initiative for sharing their ecological stewardship insights as we prepare for this new chapter in SAMLARC’s story!
