The SAMLARC Board of Directors is excited to announce additional pickleball courts will be implemented at Altisima Park with the project scheduled to begin this fall. Pickleball’s rapid rise in popularity has increased the demand for courts, and as a premier community, SAMLARC is pleased to provide additional spaces where Members and guests can play.
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. The sport is quick to learn, adapts for both casual and competitive play, and fosters social connections. The relative compactness of the court size and slower ball speed make the sport appealing for a wide range of players, and as more Members embrace pickleball, SAMLARC is resourcefully updating its facilities to reflect Member interests.
SAMLARC conducted extensive evaluation of potential locations throughout the community. This evaluation included a professional sound study, and a review of locations and associated costs by the Landscape and Facilities Enhancement Committee. After thoughtful consideration, the Board unanimously voted to renovate the remaining tennis court at Altisima Park into four new pickleball courts. The court conversion allows SAMLARC to expand its pickleball facilities while upholding appropriate financial stewardship – and complying with City noise ordinances.
The renovation will begin in November of 2023 and span approximately 6 weeks. The Board anticipates opening the new courts in January 2024, and looks forward to plenty of pickleball throughout the year. Stay tuned for updates on this project at SAMLARC.org/projects!
