Board of Directors Meeting Highlights: September 2024

The SAMLARC Board of Directors held their monthly meeting on September 24, 2024, to discuss projects and initiatives that maintain and enhance the SAMLARC community. The Board approved all Consent Calendar items for the stewardship of SAMLARC’s assets and viability, ongoing community maintenance, and contracts with professional service providers.

September Highlights

  • Received recommended revisions to the 2025 SAMLARC Policies & Guidelines and Architectural Standards for Board review. Further comments from the Board will be considered at the October 22, 2024, Board of Directors Meeting prior to making the documents available for Member comment. Pending Board approval, the updated Policies & Guidelines and Architectural Standards will be adopted in January 2025.
  • Renewed SAMLARC’s community management contract with FirstService Residential. Through this agreement, the Board can focus on providing high-level, organizational direction while FirstService Residential’s 22-person, on-site team executes the daily operations of the Association.
  • Approved three significant capital improvement projects to improve Members’ experiences throughout the community. These projects were identified as priorities within the 2025-2027 Board Strategic Plan, and thanks to significant savings from rainfall earlier this year, can be completed within 2024, while remaining well within the 2024 Annual Budget.
    • Turf Conversion at the Central Park Sports Arena: The arena is used for futsal, field hockey, exercise classes, and lacrosse. Over time, the flooring material has deteriorated, making it difficult for players to practice and play. The flooring will be replaced with a specialty artificial turf, designed to support players, withstand the elements, and improve general use as well.
    • Community Cameras: The unfortunate rise in vandalism, illegal dumping and e-bike activity, among other behaviors has significantly impacted the SAMLARC budget – nearly $14,000 has been spent this year in repairing damages to facilities and parks. Additional cameras throughout SAMLARC facilities and amenities will help protect the Association's assets.
    • Shade Structure at Altisima Park Picnic Shelter: The wooden picnic shelter at Altisima Park has experienced significant damage from the elements, pests, and the expected aging process. The Board has approved the replacement of the wooden structure with a sturdy, appealing shade structure that will provide families with a shady place to enjoy picnics and parties.
  • Approved a variety of contracts and work authorizations for the ongoing maintenance of critical pieces of SAMLARC’s infrastructure, including sidewalks, roofs, and irrigation. Project schedules and anticipated amenities impacts will be available at SAMLARC.org/projects

The SAMLARC Board of Directors is committed to preserving the value, desirability, and attractiveness of all properties within SAMLARC. The SAMLARC Board will meet twice in October: first for the annual Budget Workshop (October 8) and then again for regular business (October 22). Both meetings will be held at 6:00 PM at the Lago Santa Margarita Beach Club and are open to SAMLARC Members. Per Civil Code 4920, the Open Session and Executive Session Agendas for each meeting are officially posted at the SAMLARC Beach Club and Business Offices. Open Session Meetings are open to SAMLARC Members.
