On November 16, 2024, community members are invited to attend a celebration of Richard Reese, master planner and long-time resident of Rancho Santa Margarita. Mr. Reese was the visionary who designed SAMLARC’s “lifestyle village” and was a kind friend to many Lakeshore visitors over the years. At 9:30 AM, a reception will be held at the SAMLARC canary pine grove with a commemorative dedication of a bench at the Lago Santa Margarita – the central fixture of the community he designed. Light refreshments will be provided.
From his drafting board in the 1980s through his passing in August of 2023, Mr. Reese was a keystone in designing Rancho Santa Margarita. The vibrant parks, winding trails, and glimmering Lago Santa Margarita bear the fingerprints of his skill in urban design - but Mr. Reese’s kindness, optimism, and humor brightened the lives of all he met.
Rancho Santa Margarita was created to be a refreshing place where families establish intergenerational roots, weave a dynamic cultural fabric, and enjoy time in nature. Mr. Reese watched that vision come to life as he walked countless miles around the Lake and built vibrant friendships with countless new neighbors. His life’s pleasure was seeing our community enjoy the beautiful place he called home. The City of Rancho Santa Margarita and SAMLARC are honored to be stewards of Mr. Reese's vision, and look forward to celebrating his legacy.
